1 . Soft to the touch. Tap the right shoe, if you feel too much friction or stiffness, probably the one you have in hand is not real leather. In the case of hides such as goats, calves , suede or soft leather , the feeling is really a soft material .
2 . Odor. Pull off the nose to the shoe : if you hear the characteristic smell of leather , strong and like any odor hard to describe in words , you are making the right purchase . Trust your nose.
3 . Small defects . The real leather is never homogeneous , but has some grain : imperfection that emphasize the originality and craftsmanship. Especially for goat leather or kangaroo and for the colored ones , the color will never be uniform.
4 . Wrinkles on the upper (ie, the upper part of the shoes , which is sewn to the sole ) . Wearing them , the leather shoes conform to the shape of your foot . If after a few days they have had no wrinkle or ripple in front of the instep, it is very likely that they are not real leather . Next time be more careful .
